Case Study
A 60 year old female client complains of pain and inflammation in the lower (G.I.) gastro–intestinal tract. She has a history of Crohn’s disease and believes she is having a flair up. Crohn’s disease can be pretty terrible depending on a lot of factors. She has had it for many years and usually manages it well, but this time it appears to be taking off in the wrong direction. Pain, discomfort and constipation is what she is experiencing along with a reasonable dose of anxiety. She tends to cheat somewhat on her diet, so of course that is the first place I go with something like this. In Chinese Medicine the Liver is always involved in any kind of spasm. I give herbs to her that both relax the liver and large intestine. On the emotional or physic side I give her herbs to help calm and relieve anxiety as well as to blunt stress response. On her own, she has been doing caster oil packs, taking probiotics and Vit D. It took about a week to adjust her formulas to fit her properly. Some dosages were increased; others decreased. She is doing well now and appears to be back in the flow of her life.
